Last week we read the book Balloons over Broadway and learned all about Tony Sarg, the inventor of the balloons in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Tony Sarg's balloons were first used in the parade in 1924. We also watched a video on the History Channel showing us how the balloons are made in a studio in Hoboken, NJ. I hope they were able to share some of what they learned over the long holiday weekend!

Second graders have been researching five amazing inventors. Ralph Baer invented the handheld video game controller, Philo Farnsworth invented the television, George Ferris invented the Ferris Wheel, James Naismith invented the game of basketball, and Levi Strauss invented blue jeans. Each of these inventions changed the world, but which inventor and invention was most important?
Please view some of our videos, consider the students' arguments, and vote for which inventor is the best. Then share this page with your friends. We are trying to collect responses from all over the world. Thank you!

I am getting a bit of a head start looking at the Monarch Award books nominees for 2015. A Little Book of Sloth by Lucy Cooke is adorable AND informative. Check out my Padlet to see some other resources.
